Advent Devotion, Day 23
December 23rd
"But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God." - Galatians 4:4-7
As we journey through Advent, we are reminded that God’s timing is perfect. Galatians 4:4-7 captures the essence of the incarnation—God sending His Son into the world. The phrase "the fullness of time" speaks to God’s sovereignty over history. At the perfect moment, Jesus came, fulfilling centuries of prophecy and bringing redemption to humanity.
Jesus was born "of woman" to identify with our humanity, and "under the law" to fulfill it on our behalf. His mission was clear: to redeem us and bring us into God’s family. Through Jesus, we are no longer slaves to sin and the law but are adopted as God’s beloved children. Advent is a time to celebrate this incredible transformation and the hope it brings.
The gift of adoption also means we have the Holy Spirit in our hearts, assuring us of our identity as children of God. The Spirit enables us to cry out, "Abba! Father!"—a deeply personal and intimate expression of our relationship with God.
This Advent, let’s reflect on the beauty of our adoption and the privilege of being part of God’s family. Let us also remember that as heirs of God, we are called to live in the freedom and hope Christ has secured for us.
Personal Reflection
"The fullness of time": What do you think it means that Jesus came "in the fullness of time"?
How does this truth encourage you to trust in God’s timing in your life?
Prayer Prompt
Thank God today for His perfect timing in our lives!
