Advent Devotion, Day 13
December 13th
"For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us..." - Isaiah 9:6
As we reflect on this powerful verse from Isaiah, we are reminded of God's incredible love and the gift He gave us in Jesus. These words, spoken by the prophet over 700 years before Christ’s birth, point to the coming of a Savior who would be born in the humblest of circumstances, yet destined to change the world.
The phrase "For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us" is both tender and profound. It speaks to God’s intentional and selfless act of giving His Son to humanity. The Son born to Mary was not just a child—He was God's gift to the world, sent to redeem and restore.
In the birth of Jesus, we see the fulfillment of God’s promise to be with His people. The child born is not an ordinary child; He is the Wonderful Counselor who will guide us, the Mighty God who holds all power, the Everlasting Father who offers care and protection, and the Prince of Peace who brings reconciliation with God and peace to our hearts.
This verse invites us to pause and reflect on the magnitude of God's gift. It was not a random or impersonal act, but one done with deep love for each of us. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let us embrace the fullness of who He is. He is not only a baby in a manger but the Savior who offers us peace, guidance, and eternal life.
Personal Reflection:
How does this prophecy deepen your understanding of who Jesus is and why He came?
The promise is given in a future tense. What does this teach about trusting God’s timing and faithfulness to fulfill His promises?
Prayer Prompt:
Thank the Lord today for the fulfillment of this great promise!
