Devotional Thoughts for Today’s Christian

Today the devotion from My Utmost for His Highest is hard to understand until you get to the very end. The scripture Chambers uses is Mark 10:32, “As they followed they were afraid.” He has entitled this devotion “The Discipline of Dismay.” Chambers says of our earlier life with Christ, that we are excited and familiar with Christ as we live the life of a Christian, but as we grow with Christ, in years, at times we fall into a relationship that seems far distant and brings dismay to our lives and hearts. Our lives are disjointed and separated from Christ in such a way that we wonder about our relationship and the ability to follow Him as we once thought we did.
He says the discipline of dismay is a lesson that all believers must endure and learn from. But when the time of dismay is over and the darkness rises and light comes to us again, we will be able to follow Christ in a more intimate way and there will be inexpressible joy in our discipleship as we follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
