From Your Pastor, August 2009

26th July 2009 by Administrator

Dear Church Family,

The time for the new building to be finished is rapidly coming to a reality.  Please continue to pray that all the final details are completed and the little things are able to be worked out so we might be able to prepare the building for occupancy during September.  Of course, Homecoming/70th Anniversary and our Building Dedication will be on October 4th. We hope to begin the new Sunday School classes on that Sunday in the new and newly renovated space and have a great meal together in our new fellowship space/gymnasium.  But I am getting ahead of myself. Let me remind you some wonderful things that are on the horizon.

We as a church are invited to be with New Hopewell Baptist Church on August 2nd for their anniversary. We have been invited to eat lunch with them at 1:30pm and then worship with them at 2:30 pm. Our choir will be singing and I will have the privilege to preach the message for that special service.  Please pray about being there and enjoy the great fellowship and worship together.  We will not have any evening service on the 2nd at our church.

Both Dee Powell and Ryan Williams have being doing great jobs working with the children and youth, respectively, this summer.  God is leading in special ways for our children and youth, so please pray that what He desires is what we do for those who are so precious to us.  For this last month, I hope you will have your children and youth participate in all they can so they may grow in the Lord Jesus or be introduced to Him as their Savior and Lord.

This fall our “Small Groups” will begin again.  Because the building will not available until October, we will start those small groups on Sunday, October 11th. At this time we have the following small groups prepared to start: Women’s Bible study group, Men’s Fraternity (Sunday and Friday morning), God’s Gifted Hands (Prayer Shawl Ministry small group & last Friday of each month), Sanctuary Bible Group, Cooking Class, Youth small group, Children’s small group.  Hopefully we will have another financial study group. If anyone has a specific type of small group that you feel would minister to and help disciple the church family, please call me and let me know.  We need to have these in place by the first of September.

Now back to the Homecoming and 70th Anniversary.  We need the help of the church family to get the word out to former members.  Our hope is to get their addresses so we can send them an invitation.  We definitely need as many people as we can to commit to a catered meal right after the service.  Our preacher for the day will be Mac Burris, our last pastor before me.  I look forward to hearing Mac preach for us and reminisce some.  We will need you to help in everyway you can, from greeting people, to setting up for the meal and cleaning up afterwards, to just being the most friendly people this side of heaven. Sunday School that day will be a High Attendance Day for us and I pray that every class will seek to get all those who are enrolled in their class to come, plus those prospects who are really searching for a church and those who are lost friends and family members. Our theme for the Homecoming is “What God Has Provided” and our scripture is Psalm 70:4,

Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say continually, “Let God be magnified!”

May God, be magnified in your life.

Serving you and the Lord,
