Do you ever find it hard to love and forgive as Jesus did? As humans, we all do; just more at some times than at others.
John 15:13 New International Version (NIV); “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Jesus goes on to say that we are His friends if we do what He commands. He commands us to love and forgive others, just as He forgave us. Think what it would be like to actually be Jesus this week. Tonight is such a sad night while a night also filled with God’s will and direction surely being met. While His disciples slept, Jesus Christ was agonizing with His Heavenly Father on what was to happen. “Please take this responsibility from me, please don’t make me do this. BUT, not my will, Yours be done.” The local religious leaders are thinking up false charges to be able to arrest Him and murder Him. He is “sold out” by one of His followers for no more than a slave would be sold for. Jesus knows that one of His closest friends will soon deny even knowing Him.Tonight He will have supper with His disciples. An occasion in which He should be honored but, our Lord will stoop and wash the dirty, smelly feet of those there.
Can we but see and realize how we have failed God and are so unworthy of forgiveness or grace. Even while hanging on the Cross, Jesus Christ was praying for those mocking and tormenting Him.
Luke 23:34a New International Version (NIV); “Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Forgive them! Forgive them? As Christians, we should strive to be more Christ-like. I know I have a long way to go.
2 Corinthians 3:18 New International Version (NIV); “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplatethe Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
