FREEDOM IN CHRIST

We have a plaque in our house that reads: “If You Are Lucky Enough To Live On The Lake, You Are Lucky Enough”. We live on Lake Hartwell in upstate South Carolina. As I was flying over the lake on a business trip, I noticed the various rivers and streams that flowed into the lake and the one major river that flowed out of the lake. What was unique was that ALL were crooked. I pondered on this and then the answer was simple. They each followed the path of least resistance. The water flowed AROUND anything that caused it resistance; always searching out that path that offered no resistance and was the easiest.
Then I realized, the same can be said for many people that call themselves Christians. They don’t want to resist the Devil, society, their own self-satisfaction or worldly pressure. They too often yield to temptation, compromise and don’t do what they know is right. Evil is all around us.
1 John 4:4 The Message (MSG); “My dear children, you come from God and belong to God. You have already won a big victory over those false teachers, for the Spirit in you is far stronger than anything in the world. These people belong to the Christ-denying world. They talk the world’s language and the world eats it up. But we come from God and belong to God. Anyone who knows God understands us and listens. The person who has nothing to do with God will, of course, not listen to us. This is another test for telling the Spirit of Truth from the spirit of deception.”
We don’t have to succumb to any temptations or worldly pressures. If God truly lives in us, then we can remain steadfast in His teachings.
1 Corinthians 15:58 The Message (MSG); “With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for Him is a waste of time or effort.”
Matthew 7:14 The Message (MSG); “Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.” New International Version (NIV); “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
The path to freedom in Christ runs below His Cross.
