THE BRIDGE

3rd September 2012 by Bill Davis
When I was young and our family would travel to visit Grandparents in the lower part of South Carolina, we always passed a cemetery called; “MIDWAY”. I thought that a neat name. Midway between earth and Heaven. I often wondered why they didn’t call their church Midway. The church ministering, serving and teaching others as the “midway” between earth and Heaven. I know of a new church being formed called, “The Bridge”. Now “The Bridge” can do much more than just be a midway point. Yes, with their teaching and outreach; they are a midway point between earth and Heaven. They will “bridge” this particular gap. In addition, they will bridge the gap between social and economic status,”bridge” the gap between racial and ethnic groups; even “bridge” the gap between generations. Perhaps even “bridge” the gap between various religious groups while standing firm in their own Biblical basis; the undeniable word of God.
Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV); “Be strong in the Lordand in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God,so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powersof this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God,so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.Take the helmet of salvationand the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spiriton all occasionswith all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on prayingfor all the Lord’s people.”
The value system in our Country is changing, and we either do not realize it or care. The youth in our Country have lost respect for their elders and authority…perhaps for good reason. Too often, modern religion with their many acts of piety and lack of compassion have turned away those God expects us to reach. Our leaders have turned from the very beliefs that our forefathers fought and died for. They have outlawed the very Book and principles our Nation was built on. Let us pray that churches like The Bridge and others can help “bridge” this gap between right and wrong, between Christian values and socialistic pressure.
Matthew 24:12-13 New International Version (NIV); “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV); “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
The relationship between man  and God was broken with the sin of Adam and Eve. Sin created a great divide between man and God. Many people recognize this separation from God, but  don’t understand the seriousness of it. Many try to bridge this gap by doing or not doing certain things. By the grace of God, we must continue to work toward and to pray for a way to “bridge” this gap.
1 Timothy 2:5 (NIV); “For there is one Godand one mediatorbetween God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.”
Could Jesus be the “bridge” between man and God? Certainly He is. I just pray that there will continue to be people and churches willing to stand for Christ and “bridge” the gap.
