What Will You Give?

God made His gift to us, He gave His son. John 3:16 could almost be called the Christmas story. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God gave the ultimate gift of His Son. Have you ever given someone a gift that you really thought was special, only to see them act ungrateful or to not take care of the gift you gave them? Kind of irritating isn’t it? How do you think God felt? He even knew how His gift would be treated before He gave it, but He gave it anyway. What will you give? For just a moment, lets think of our gift as money and the recipient as your own church. No, we are not talking about a local charity or needy family. We are talking about your church. The church you have chosen to attend and gain spiritual and personal support from. Maybe you give generously of your time, but here we are talking about money. Don’t hit delete quite yet. Lets look at some scripture first: Matthew 6:21; “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Lets look at that from a more secular point: For where your heart is, there your treasure will be. You love that football team or golf course, so that is where a lot of your money goes. I am sure God loved His son. I am sure Jesus loved His life. Both were given for us and that is where Their love (heart) remains— with us. Do you love your church? Does your church provide spiritual nourishment for you? Does it comfort you? Is it a meaningful part of your life? If not, maybe you should look for another church. If it does, maybe right now you could do something from your heart for it. 2 Corinthians 9:7; “Everyone should give what they have decided in their heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” I am not talking about only your tithe, I am talking about the gifts of your heart. Maybe you lack the motivation to give away your “hard earned” money because you don’t see the church’s vision or how the money will make a difference. Make it a personal gift. Sit down with someone from your church and discuss how your gift can make a difference and how it will be used. Give a gift to Jesus on His birthday. Just give it to your own church. I promise, this will be a great gift for Him.
