Do You Want To Increase Your Witness? Devotion

1st November 2011 by Bill Davis
As with most things in life, you can’t go to a new level of ability or service with an old way of thinking and doing. For something new to happen, something new has to start on the inside. Walk closer with God. Psalm 115: Selected NIV; “Not to us O Lord, but to Your name be the glory. The Lord remembers us and will bless us. He will bless those who fear the Lord, small and great alike.” The Lord will bless you and increase you. Jesus taught us that He came that we might have life abundantly, to the fullest (John 10:10b). This may not be materially, but more importantly; spiritually. He has told us He would take care of our every need (Philippians 4:19). There is this great little book written by Dr. Bruce Wilkinson called, “The Prayer of Jabez”. I say little because it is less than 100 pages but packed with inspiration about a simple prayer, prayed by one of God’s servants. The story is taken from the fourth chapter of 1 Chronicles. The basics of the prayer is Jabez asking the Lord to bless him. Not just bless him, but bless him indeed. Then Jabez wants God to enlarge his territory or enlarge his scope of ministry. When was the last time you actually prayed in earnest that God would bring you more opportunity to share His message? Jabez then ask God to keep His hand on him and provide the strength for this ministry. Hebrews 13:5b; “God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” His final request is that God will not only protect him from evil, but will keep him from evil. This can certainly lead you to a more full, abundant and overflowing spiritual life. God has an endless supply of blessings to give you. Do you think it is time to give God permission to increase your ministry? Is your container large enough to hold all His blessings? Maybe you need to build a bigger container. Think about it; are you willing and ready to pray such a prayer with conviction that it will be fulfilled?
