As a small child I never enjoyed going to revivals, they were often long and boring. I don’t remember much about them, but I do remember the music. And with the mention of the word “revival” I always think of the song Revive Us Again and the refrain. Hallelujah Thine the glory. Hallelujah Amen. Hallelujah Thine the glory. Revive us again. As I have grown, I have come to enjoy revival times. As we are preparing for the revival service and praying for those who are lost, let us not forget that we can be in need of reviving. Read Psalm 85:1, 2, 6-8.
1Lord, thou hast been favorable unto thy land; thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob. 2Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people; thou hast covered all their sin. 6Wilt thou not revive us again; that thy people may rejoice in thee? 7Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation. 8I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
What is holding you in captivity? Is it pride, anger, lack of trust in God, depression, bitterness; is it your job, family, commitments to things; is it power, money, or lust. We can be held in captivity so long that we forget what it is like to be free in Christ. Read the same Psalm below that has been personalized.
Lord, you have been favorable to me; You have brought me back out of captivity. You have forgiven my perversity and wickedness; You have forgiven all my sins. Will you not revive me again; that I may rejoice in You? Show me Your mercy, O Lord, and grant me joy and peace of Thy salvation. I will hear what You God my Lord will speak: for you will speak peace to me and to all your saints: but let me not turn again to my follies.
Start now for your personal revival and pray. Revival will be March 20-23. Sunday morning we will be emphasizing “Bring a Friend,” Sunday night will be “Sunday School,” Monday night will be “Operation Andrew,” Tuesday night will be “Children’s” emphasis, and Wednesday night the emphasis will be on the “Youth.”
