A very dear Christian friend of mine, who also happens to be a leading Pastor; gave me some good advice. We all as Christians have certain responsibilities as servants of Christ. There is that which we received free from God and are expected to also freely give as well.
2 Corinthians 6:3-4a New International Version (NIV); “We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way.”
Matthew 10:8 New International Version (NIV); “Freely you have received; freely give.”
One great thing we received free was grace from God; nothing we should feel entitled to. God’s grace is based on our faith and is indeed free. However, we are judged my our actions and deeds.
James 2:14-17 New International Version (NIV); “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed’, but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
We have certainly freely received the love of Jesus Christ. What more should we be willing to do for others?
John 15:13 New International Version (NIV); “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Jesus was the perfect example of kindness and love. Throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus showed His love for others. He certainly loved and forgave His disciples. He spent time with them and taught them:
John 15:12 New International Version (NIV); “My command is this: ‘Love each other as I have loved you.”
Jesus died on the cross for ALL people because God loves the ENTIRE world. God loves the murderer, the thief, the adulterer, the homosexual; everyone.
John 3:16 New International Version (NIV); “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
The catch here, is that if we truly believe in Jesus Christ; we will keep His commandments and live according to His teachings. How will you know His teachings, without studying His word?
