A Christian friend sent me and article to read. Seems every time I read it, I get a different but good, message from it. One of the main points is that we too often look at our elected officials as “saviors” in their own being. If one is elected over the other, then all is well. If the other is elected, we are doomed. As Christians, should we not be more dependent on God for our well being. I understand and support those who spend much time on public medians supporting their person and even pointing out the flaws and short comings of the opposition. However, what if we took much of that same energy and actually prayed for whoever is or going to lead us. They are not our salvation, God is.
Matthew 7:7 New International Version (NIV); “Ask and it will be given to you;seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
1 John 4:4 New International Version (NIV); “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in youis greater than the one who is in the world.”
We should support our elected officials, but we should be more concerned with standing up for God and His teachings. Jesus taught us that He wanted us to be “in the world” but not “of the world”. How can we reach others if we sit behind our ivory towers of judgment and do not walk where Jesus walked?
Romans 12:2 (NIV); “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is; His good and pleasing and perfect will.”
John 15:19 The Way for Cowboys  (NIV); “If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.”
Can you handle it if the world hates you? What if they think you are not “cool” or “sweet” or whatever word is popular? Can you handle it…..can you? Is it so important to you to be accepted that you turn from God’s word?
1 Peter 3:14 New International Version (NIV); “But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. ‘Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.”
Christians have received their instructions from God if they will but heed His word. We have received our instructions for life from God. We must dare not lay it down at the desire  or command of men.
Acts 4:19 The Way for Cowboys (NIV); “But Peter and John replied, ‘Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to Him? You be the judges!”
We should support those who support scripture. Is your candidate Christian, does he or she follow the guidelines of scripture or man? There is a great quote that certainly fits America’s apathy toward individual rights as they appy to the worship of God and our willingness to let government dictate how and when we will worship.
During a meeting in the chambers of the United States Senate in 1947, Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall prayed, “Give us clear vision that we may know where to stand and what to stand for – because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything.” Such words of prophecy are being seen today. As we loose our religious freedoms and rights of expression virtually on a day to day basis, what are we as Christians doing? Seems we are just waiting for “somebody else” to do it.  We often criticize Peter for denying even knowing Jesus not once but three times; while we deny Him daily. When Peter was brought before the Sanhedrin court and reminded that he was ordered not to teach in God’s name, he said:
Acts 5:29 The Way for Cowboys (NIV); “We must obey God rather than human beings!”
Really; who are you obeying?
