Devotional Thought for Today’s Christian

“God’s Total Surrender to Us” came when He gave His only Son to die for us that we might have eternal life. (John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”)  Oswald Chambers writes in today’s devotion from My Utmost for His Highest that salvation comes from God and that means our lives are completely delivered from ourselves and placed in perfect union with God.  It is by the Holy Spirit that I can have an intimate relationship with God and that truly comes by complete surrender to Him.  John 3:16 shows us that God surrendered Himself to us so that we might have that special relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.

He has challenged me to make sure my preaching is about Jesus and the Gospel of Christ, proclaiming that He alone can save us from our sin and thereby be made holy in Him.  Chambers reminds us that God first gave His Son in total and complete surrender so that we might live a life for Him.  Our life then is to follow the example of God in Christ, and be totally, completely, and without reservation surrendered to God!

We do not surrender to God to be better but to have a relationship with Him and then He will change our lives that we may be holy and righteous before Him.  Have you followed Christ’s example and surrendered your life to God?
